Biography Lee Ryan
Hero: Motown
Villain: Jungle (the music obviously)
Lee Ryan was born on the 17th of June, 1983, making him the baby of the band. He
was born in South East London and brought up in Blackheath. He had trouble at
school and hated it. He had dyslexia, so work was extremely difficult for him,
but he says the teachers never helped him much, so he struggled. The secondary
schools he went to were constantly changing, and he was always in detention and
even got expelled four times. Teachers thought he was causing trouble, when he
really wasn't. Feeling fed up of school, he went to a stage school when he was
13, Italia Conti. He had to leave because the grades in subjects such as Maths
and English weren't high enough, whereas he excelled in practical work. He moved
to the infamous Sylvia Young Theatre School. Theatre work didn't really interest
him, singing was what he loved. He's always had an interest in girls and his
first love was a girl named Carla Erwin when he was in the first year at school.
Lee's big break came from the TV show 'This Morning'. They were making a boyband
so he went for auditions and met Antony. He was lucky and secured a place in the
band, but the recording contract never happened. But Antony then asked him to
join the band, and fortunately, he did. Duncan says he is 'cockney, cocky,
confident, cocksure and totally crazy'. He has bad table manners and is a Gemini
so has a split personality. Duncan says he is crazy, and you never know what to
expect from him.
Lee in his own words...
I'm told I was quite cute when I was this little - mum used to enter me
into baby competitions. In fact, she dressed me up as a girl once on holiday for
a competition!
Even as a baby I was accident prone. Mum says I was always bumping into things
and splitting my head open. Once I fell off a wall and cracked my head open.
Then a couple of times it was mum's fault! First she slammed the car door on my
head and then, when I was crawling on the floor, she didn't see me and closed
the garage door on me!
Now if I whack my head I don't really feel it, whereas if I hit anything else
it's painful. I got my willy caught in a zip once - that really hurt! I wasn't
that naughty as a child, but mum'd have a go at me sometimes for doing silly
things! Like I remember pushing a kid in a fountain when he was very young. He
barged infront of me to get a look at the fish, so I pushed him in the water and
he got soaked!
At achool I got into trouble for not concentrating but it wasn't my fault. I'm
dyslexic and I have trouble with my short attention span. I hated school. I just
thought it was a waste of time.
I'd get done for never wearing my school uniform as well. It was grey and blue
and I used to wear it with trainers because I couldn't wear shoes, I had a bad
Achilles tendon. I actually had it sorted out but when it was better I still
said my tendon was hurting so I could carry on wearing trainers.
I didn't really have many nicknames when I was a kid until I was about thirteen,
then I got called Oliver Twist. I looked like him because I had blond hair in
curtains. I couldn't really see it myself though!
What was your favourite nosh as a kid?
I don't think I really had a favourite food. I wasn't into chips and
junk food. I was probably eating veg and stuff.
Who were your fave superheroes?
When I was 8 I'd put a vest on, get a toy gun and think I was Bruce
Willis in Die Hard. I was a bit young for that, eh?
Tell us about your teddy bears...
I named my favourite teddy bear James. I used to call him Jamie. He
wasn't like a secruity blanket or anything.
Who was your first hot crush on?
I had loads of different girlfriends at school, I wasn't into famous
people. There was no particular look I went for.
