Biography Duncan James
Hero: Seventies Funk
Villain: McDonalds
Duncan, or Dunk as he prefers to be called, Matthew James' life began on the 7th
of April, 1979. He was born in Oddstock Hospital in Salisbury, Swindon. He has
no brothers or sisters. He describes himself as a typical Aries, confident and
head strong, sometimes they can be bossy but inside they're caring and loyal. He
was a good child, who's angelic face often got him out of trouble. From the age
of four to nine, he went to a private school that his grandad was a music
teacher at. He cried on his first day. He was quite a good student, his reports
were fine but he didn't concentrate very much at school, maybe this hindered his
academic success. He has amusing stories to tell from his childhood days, such
as his WWF matches with younger children and getting chased down the road by old
men with sticks. He really enjoyed secondary school. His best friend there was
called BJ, and he confesses to getting into a lot of trouble with him. They'd
experiment with girls, kissing in classrooms, and get into trouble by ththrowing
rotten apples at the windows. Like Antony, he'd always had a love for music, but
he had dreams of being an actor when he was at school. His favourite subject was
Drama and he was in all of the school plays. Duncan has always been a heart
throb, when he was in the Sixth Form younger girls created a fan club for him
called 'Duncanising'. He studied 'A' Level Drama and discovered his voice. He
worked at a Haven holiday resort when he was 18, and had a great time there. He
had ambitions of being a pop star so joined a few bands, Blue started when he
met Antony. Lee describes him as 'smooth, slick, hyperactive, sensitive and
thoughtful'. Like in his school days, he always gets up to mischief, this time
his partner in crime is Lee. Lee admits they often run around hotels naked, and
they're always up for skinny dipping.
Duncan in his own words...
My first memory is of playschool, about the time that this snap was taken. I
must have been three or four. Gran tried to leave me there for the afternoon but
I kicked up such a fuss. She walked away and I just screamed until she came
back! From that day on I hated playschool and never wanted to go. It might come
from being an only child. I don't think I liked being left alone.
I remember my first day at school. Surprise surprise, I kicked up a fuss! But
after a few days I absolutely loved it - even though I had a daft uniform. We
wore shorts all year round and knee socks with garters to keep them up!
Academically I was always average, never bright, never thick - but I was
creative at subjects like Art, Drama and English.
Me and my best mate BJ were called the terrible twins, we got in trouble all the
time. I was the good one and he was the evil git.
We did some bad stuff, like when we were wrestling and we accidently hurt this
other kid. His mum told us off, so we got her back by throwing curry powder in
her face! That's so bad! As a kid you don't realise it's a really dangerous
thing to do, you just think it's funny.
BJ was always more advanced than me. I think he lost his virginity when he was
14 or something ridiculous - I didn't lose mine until I was 18. He was going out
with Kelly and I was going out with Sorrel and they were both best mates.
One lunchtime, when I was about 13, Sorrel and I sneaked into an empty classroom
and turned the lights off. That was my first major snog-up under the desk!
What was your favourite nosh as a kid?
I got fish and chips and ate them on gran's door step. It drove her mad - she
worried what the neighbours thought!
Who were your fave superheroes?
I loved He-Man. I was into wrestling and wanted to be Hulk Hogan from WWF. I
watched it every day!
Tell us about your teddy bears...
I had Big Ted and Little Ted, and a White Ted who was my uncles. He was really
old and had an eye missing.
Who was your first hot crush on?
Wonder Woman was stunning, I'd say to my mum, "I want to meet Wonder
Woman!" Later I got obsessed with Kylie.
